A structural behavior of containment composed of spherical dome and cylindrical wall in nuclear power plants subjected to phantom RF-4E airplane crash was elastically studied. The analysis was carried out by the use of equivalent static force which was obtained by multiplying airplane impact peak force by dynamic load factor in which the effect of soil-structure interaction was considered. The result of equivalent static analysis subjected to airplane impact force was compared to that subjected to earthquake load.
In this study a computer program for the shell element was developed by reduced integration technique in finite element method for more accurate analysis of containment to airplane crash. The program was used incorporating with SAP IV in getting eigenvalue solution and static analysis as well.
