Oxygen transport in hollow fiber membrane oxygenator was studied with sodium sulfite. In membrane blood oxygenator it has been known that mass transfer risistance through membrane is negligible as complared to the thin boundary layer in the blood side. Thus the mathematical modelling using "advancing front theory"was performed with the assumption that most of the reaction takes place in the thin liquid boundary layer.
Experiment was carried out using sodium sulfite solution of low concentration (0.0125N) in the presence of $1.1\times10^{-5}$M Co catalysts. The solution was recycled at various flow rates through the hollow fiber reactor with silicone membrane and the concentrations in the reservoir were measured a given time intervals.
As a result, it was found that the thickness of liquid film varied sensitively with the sodium sulfite concentration and the membrane resistance was not important. Also the theory was in good agreement with the experimental data at high flow rates.
