Ringel conjectured that all trees are graceful. While this conjecture remains still unsettled, it has been shown that some classes of trees are graceful. This thesis presents more general methods to construct graceful trees by using the new vertex numbering called $α^{\ast}$- numbering. By this way the class of graceful tree is extended and Ringel's conjecture is confirmed to some extent.
