To investigate the effect of intermittent interlaminar bonding, the specimens are modeled on the intermittent interlaminar bonded composite laminates with a crack under interlaminar shear load. The effect of variations of weak bonding/strong bonding ratio is investigated for isotropic cases and laminated cases.
For isotropic specimens, S.I.F. is obtained using Smith's method from transmission photoelastic analysis. For laminated composite specimens, stress distribution near a crack tip is measured by photoelastic coating method.
The result shows that S.I.F. is decreased as weak bonding/strong bonding ratio increases.
