Holway's ellipsoidal statistial model equations for bianry gas mixture have been obtained by employing maximum entropy or information theory.
This model is a good approximation for Boltzmann equation in that it describes equilibration process about energy and momentum transfer of gas mixture. This property is also discussed by proving H-theorem.
Transport coefficients for gas mixture is obtained by the first order ChapmanEnskog procedure, which is shown to be almost same as the first order Chapman-Cowling's result. In this procedure, Holway's model of evaluating free parameter $α_{ab}$ is not so good as compared with Krook's model. Holway's model is also shown to be same order as compared with Boyle-Yip's first approximation, and Grad's 13-moment approximation.
