Two models are used in determination of temperature distribution during arc butt-welding.
Two dimensional model is made with assumption that in very thin plate, the temperature variation on thickness is disregarded. One dimensional model is made from two dimensional one with assumptions of quasi-stationary state and a sufficient fast welding speed in comparison to the heat diffusion rate of the material.
The efficiency of one dimensional model with respect to two dimensional one is examined by finite element method.
The results of one dimensional model are somewhat higher than those of two dimensional one in the vicinity of the line of welding (The relative error at max. temperature is within 15%, after end effect is disappeared.), but in other region, the results of the former are in good agreement with those of the latter. The computing time of one dimensional model is much shorter and more economic.
