A computer program entitled QUEN1D is developed for analyses of the reflooding phase of a loss of coolant accident (LOCA) in a pressurzed water reactor(PWR). The physical model consists of a finite vertical fuel rod whose initial surface temperature distribution is similar to a chopped cosine form. During reflooding, six different regions of the flow regime are assumed : (1) a sub-cooled single phase region, (2) a film boiling region which is further divided into two regions, that is, a sub-cooled film boiling region and a saturated film boiling regions, (5) a dispersed flow region, and (6) a region where its surface is precooled by the coolant carried over beyond the dispersed flow region.
A numerical solution of the one-dimensional heat conduction equation is obtained using the finite difference method. Also, heat transfer coefficients for different regions are abtained from well known existing correlations.
To examine the applicability of the present computer model, results of analyses of the QUENlD are compared with the PWR-FLECHT data: At higher flooding rate a good agreement is obtained, whereas at low flooding rate disagreement becomes noticeable. A recommandation is made to extend the present works to improve the applicability of the present computer code.
