Added masses of square and hexagonal structures vibrating in an incompressible inviscid fluid enclosed by a rigid concentric container are studied. An asymptotic expression for the added mass is obtained using method of matched asymptotic expansion and a series of experiments with cantilevered beams vibrating in air and water is performed. Numerical solution is also obtained by using finite element analysis. Experimental data are in good agreement with theoretical and numerical results.
