The purpose of this study is to prevent separation of flow in a subsonic wide angle straight wall diffuser using an inclined screen.
In diffuser, screen diverts the air flow toward the wall where the flow velocity is lower than that of the core region by filling effect.
Usually the screen is installed normal to the diffuser centerline.
But, in the present method, a screen is installed at diffuser outlet in the shape of swept-back wing with its apex on the centerline of the diffuser.
Using this inclined screen, the filling effect of the screen can be increased, and the energy loss can be reduced by reduction of normal velocity component to the screen.
From the result of experiments, steady and uniform outlet velocity profile was obtained, and about 90% reduction of diffuser axial length was possible with same performance and area ratio for the case of diffuser with no screen.
