Home bias in stock market is continually debated in many studies. Many studies compare the simple profit of domestic and foreign investors, and conclude that there is home bias in stock market. However, comparing profits is problematic as mostly expected profit is zero. This study examines information asymmetry by comparing information quality among domestic institutes, individual and foreign investors in the Korean stock market using the daily and monthly data from 2006 to 2013. We find that information quality of domestic institute and foreign investors is high but that of domestic individual investor is low. In conclusion, information quality of domestic individual investor is worse than that of other investors, and this indicates the existence of information asymmetry but not home bias. We guess that this low information quality of individual investors is caused by the heterogeneity in individual investors.
주식시장에서 자국편중에 대한 논의는 계속적으로 이어져오고 있다. 국내 투자자와 외국인 투자자간의 수익률 또는 수익률의 대용물을 비교하여 자국편중이 존재한다는 결론을 내는 연구들이 많이 있어왔다. 하지만 수익률이라는 것은 변동성이 커서 유의한 기대 수익률을 얻기가 어려운 지표이기에 본 연구에서는 한국주식시장에서의 투자자들의 단순한 수익이 아닌, 수익을 가져다 주는 주식 정보와 그 정보의 질을 측정하여 비교함으로써 자국편중을 논의하려 한다. 투자자의 구별은 국내 투자자를 개인과 기관 투자자로 나누어 연구하여, 총 세 그룹의 투자자로 구분을 하였다. 결론적으로는 정보의 질적인 측면에서 국내 기관 투자자와 외국인 투자자가 높게 나왔으며, 국내 개인투자자의 경우에는 정보의 질이 떨어지는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다. 외국인 투자자의 경우, 정보의 질이 환율과 금융위기를 고려하였을 경우에 증가하는 것을 보였다. 결론적으로, 국내 개인투자자의 정보의 질이 다른 투자자에 비해 낮은 것으로 한국시장에서 정보의 비대칭이 존재하지만 이것이 자국편중의 형태라 할 수 없다.
