In order to harness competitive advantage and sustainable growth, manufacturing enterprises are cur-rently expanding their business strategies to value-adding services by shifting from traditional manufacturing to service oriented business. In particular, shipbuilding has been regarded as a backbone industry in South Korea. However, the shipbuilding industry in Korea has encountered several challenges because of increasing labor and material costs and significant growth of the Chinese shipbuilding industry. Therefore, a strategic shift to service oriented business should be considered not only to overcome its difficulties but also to sustain continuous growth of shipbuilding business. The primary objective of this study is to propose the servitization strategy coupled with a conceptual value chain model to be employed in a service oriented manufacturing business for Korean shipbuilders. The proposed value chain is illustrated with a HOISM (House Of IT Service Map) model for mapping the major processes with their applications. The feasibility of the proposed model is verified in a case study of a process-centric Korean shipbuilding company. The proposed model is expected to systematically improve application delivery in shipbuilding and marine industry.
제조업을 기반으로 성장한 기업들이 성장이 정체되고 새로운 기술들이 출현하면서 지속적인 성장을 위해서 제품 개발의 혁신과 서비스 기업으로의 전환을 시도하고 있다. 한국의 대표적인 제조업인 조선해양 산업은 지금까지는 생산과 설계 기술을 기반으로 발전하여 세계 제일의 조선해양 강대국이 되었으나, 생산과 설계 기술을 기반으로 한 성장에는 한계가 있기 때문에 조선해양산업이 앞으로도 국가의 기간산업으로 지속으로 발전하기 위해서는 제조업에 기반을 두고 서비스 산업으로의 전환이 필요하다.
제조업의 서비스 산업으로의 전환은 2가지 방향으로 추진되고 있다. 하나는 제품과 관련된 연관 산업으로의 확장이고, 다른 하나는 제조과정의 프로세스를 기반으로 하는 서비스 산업의 개발이다. 본 연구에서는 조선해양 산업이 제조기술에 바탕을 두고 성공적으로 서비스 산업으로 발전하기 위한 프로세스의 서비스화 전략을 제안하였다.
본 연구에서는 조선해양 산업의 프로세스 서비스화를 위해서 조선해양 산업의 가치사슬(Value Chain)을 제안하고 이를 바탕으로 프로세스와 어플리케이션의 맵핑관계를 체계적으로 파악할 수 있는 HOISM(House Of IT Service Map) 모델을 제안하였다. 이를 기반으로 블록 제조 공장, 엔지니어링 회사, 특화 기능의 사업모델에 대하여 모델의 일관성을 검증하였다. 제안된 모델을 사용하면 조선해양 산업의 임의의 프로세스에 대하여 최적화된 어플리케이션을 서비스 모델로 제안할 수 있음을 확인하였다.
