From economy to social, cultural, and environmental areas, the influence of information and communication technology (ICT) has grown so much that the importance of finding emerging technology that has the potential to become engine for economic growth is receiving more attention than ever.
This study compares the list of such emerging technology picked by specialist group and general population by finding the portion two lists match. This study also explores the potential of using collective intelligence of general public for identifying emerging technologies.
Penetration level of individual technology was evaluated by media coverage (i.e., number of reports mentioning name of the technology). Economic & financial news media reports suggest that: a) emerging technologies identified by specialists precede local news coverage, but b) number of news articles covering these technologies in international media have been already increasing at the time the specialists identified it. One way to interpret this finding is that specialists are influenced by international news media, and local news media are influenced by both international media and local specialists.
The significance of this thesis is that it deals with a rare subject of general public's collective intelligence identifying emerging technologies, and comparing the results with that identified by specialists, suggesting different methods for finding emerging technologies.
경제, 사회, 문화, 환경 등 모든 분야에서 정보통신기술(ICT)의 영향력이 커지면서, 국가의 미래 성장동력으로써의 ICT 분야의 미래유망기술 도출의 중요성이 부각되고 있다.
본 연구에서는 전문가 집단이 예측한 미래유망기술과 일반인 집단이 예측한 미래유망기술을 도출하여 비교해 보고, 전문가 집단이 예측한 미래유망기술에 대한 일반인 집단의 부합도를 살펴보았다. 또한 일반인 대중 집단지성을 통한 미래유망기술의 예측 가능성을 살펴보았다.
선정된 미래유망기술에 대한 시장에서의 확산 정도는 언론 기사의 노출 횟수를 통하여 평가하였다. 국내외 경제지에서 나타난 미래유망기술의 보도 패턴을 살펴보면, 전반적으로 전문가 집단이 예측한 미래유망기술들이 국내 경제지의 보도에 앞서고 있으나, 해외 경제지의 보도를 뒤따라가는 경향이 보이고 있다. 이는 전문가 집단이 해외 주요 매체들의 보도에 영향을 받고 있으며, 국내의 매체들의 ICT 기술 관련 보도는 해외 매체들과 전문가들의 의견으로부터 영향을 받는 것으로 해석이 가능한 내용이다.
본 논문은 ‘일반인 집단의 미래유망기술 예측’이라는 실용적인 주제에 관한 실증적 연구내용을 다루었다는 점에서 의의를 가지고 있으며, 나아가서 이를 전문가 집단의 예측과 비교함으로써 미래유망기술의 발굴 방향에 있어 다양한 가능성들을 제시하고 있다.
