A new description method for the recognition of Hangeul character patterns is presented and the structures of Hangeul basic letters are analyzed by means of two types of strokes, a horizontal and a vertical, and the relationships between them.
A recognition system using syntactic method to recognize the strictly-written composite Hangeul characters is designed with a number of procedures. In this system, the character image of Hangeul is scanned line by line, constructing the basic stroke descriptions, the fundamental elements of basic letters of Hangeul character.
The connected figures are found as the combinations of the connected basic strokes. The transition table which was made as the results of structural analysis of Hangeul basic letters is then used to determine the basic letter types of the connected figures, and the basic letter types is synthesized to complete a Hangeul character.
한글의 패턴(pattern)을 인식하기 위한 새로운 description 방법을 제안하였다. 또한 한글 자모들의 구조를 두 개의 형의 stroke- 수평 stroke 와 수직 stroke - 들의 조합과 그들 사이의 관계로 분석했다.
여기서 제시된 시스템에서는 글자를 한줄 한줄씩 위에서 아래로 주사(scan) 하면서 basic stroke des cription (BSD )들을 만들고, 그들의 연결된 집합인 connected figure description(CFD)들로서 한글의 각 자모들을 결정하고, 그들을 종합하여 하나의 완전한 글자로 인식한다. 빠른 $\bigcirc$ 의 인식문제, 자모가 가로로 연결된 글자의 인식문제 등은 좀 더 연구가 필요하다.
