The mechanical and chemical properties of chemically vapor deposited TiC on WC-Co substrate were investigated.
The deposition temperature, deposition time and cobalt content of substrate had pronounced effects on the deposition of TiC coating thickness.
The microhardness was increased as increasing thickness of TiC coating, but thermal shock resistance was decreased.
The wear resistance of TiC coating specimen was remarkably increased, and flank wear and crater wear were lower than uncoated specimens. The orientation of TiC coating has <100> preferred orientation at low deposition temperature, but changed to random orientation with the increase of deposition temperature.
