A 17 bit Charge Coupled Device (CCD) Split-Electrode Convolver has been built with an aluminum anodization method.
In this device, PMOS process has been adopted, and the operation of the device is in $1\frac{1}{2}$ phase mode, and no channel stop diffusion has been made.
Sealed channel construction with two levels of aluminum is used. Anodized aluminum which isolates the first metal from the second metal has been grown by wet anodization method.
A charge presetting input method is used as an input scheme because of its linear and low noise characteristics, and the independency on the variation of the threshold voltage of the input gate.
Convolved output from the split-electrode pairs has been detected by off-chip operational amplifiers.
Aluminum anodization method and characteristics of CCD split-electrode convolver has been discussed in detail.
