Computers are used more and more in business applications and accordingly Korean character I/O devices become necessary. A cathode ray tube display for Korean character is studied in this thesis.
Korean characters are distinguished into 6 formats. Formats 1 and 2 characters have vertical vowel, formats 3 and 4 horizontal vowel, and formats 5 and 6 complex vowel. And formats 2,4,5 characters have final consonent and formats 1,3,5 do not. These formats are detected by the character format detecter. It is implemented with a single 32X8 ROM.
IHDS (Intellignet Hangeul Display System) receives string of Korean Alphabets, to separate each syllable automatically, and performs formation of each character. In addition, it has various screen editing capabilities. IHDS has I microprocessor, 1 K bytes of program memory and 1 K bytes of refresh memory.
Scanning function and DMA function are defined. They can represent many signals in general CRT display systems and the software algorithms required. With the help of the functions the design of CRT display system becomes very easy. The theory of operations of IHDS is illustrated by use of them.
