The polymerization of methyl methacylate initiated by $LiAlH_4$-THF have been studied.
It was found that the rate of polymerization was given by $Rp = k [LiAlH_4]^{2,3} [MMA]^{1,1}$ and Arrhenius activation energy was 2.5 Kcal/mole.
Under this circumstance, isotactic configuration of polymer was obtained.
When the transition metal halide was added to $LiAlH_4$-THF initiator, it was observed that the rate of polymerization was increased however, the molcular weight was found to be decreased.
Under this condition, the configuration of polymer was mostly syndiotactic.
2-pyrrolidone 의 oligomer 를 합성하고 이것을 개시제로 하여 음이온 중합을 시도하여 oligomer 의 개시제로서의 효과와 중합체의 물리적 성질을 조사하였다.
2-pyrrolidone k-salt 의 농도를 거의 9 mole %로 일정하게 하고 $CO_2$/k mole ratio 를 변화시켜 중합시킨 결과 $CO_2$/k mole ratio가 0.41 일때 가장 좋은 conversion과 고유 점도 (3.5 g/dl)을 얻었다.
중합 반응시간이 길면 percent conversion 과 고유 점도는 $CO_2$/k mole ratio에 무관하여 거의 일정하였다.
