Study on the thermal efficiency of a warm-air-furnace firing briquette was conducted to investigate the replaceability of "ONDOL(Korean house heating system)" with a warm-air-heating system. The attention was mainly focused to the measurement of the effect of the air flow rate through the heat exchanger and of the combustion-air flow rate through the furnace. The heat transfer coefficient of the cross-flow gas-to-air heat exchanger of tube banks was determined.
The experimental results indicate that the thermal efficiency of the proposed system is up to 70%, which is significantly higher than that of the traditional ONDOL.
The effects of finned tubes and the optimal design of the proposed system are recommanded as further studies.
