This thesis presents a model for evaluating the incompletion cost of a paced assembly line with stochastic work element times and proposes a new heuristic method for balancing such lines for the purpose of reducing expected labor & incompletion costs.
Both are developed on the assumption that each work element which is included in the total work content for an item, is normally distributed.
The cost model facilitates us to predict how many and what kind of incompletions will occur in an assembly line; thus making it possible to compare various line designs under consideration.
The heuristic method proposed in this thesis is based on the concept of 'critical incompletion cost'. Efficient line balances can be obtained through a three stage procedure: (1) Find out an initial balance, (2) obtain better balances by lowering the 'critical incompletion cost', and (3) examine whether it is possible to obtain a better balance by reducing the number of work stations.
본 논문에서는 작업요소시간이 확률적인 분포를 하는 paced line에서의 미완성품에 대한 비용을 계산하는 모형을 수립하였고 인건비와 미완성비용을 감소시키기 위한 라인균형화의 새로운 발견적 방법을 제시하였으며 이 두가지는 모두 어떤 제품을 조립하는 데 포함되는 모든 작업요소들의 수행시간이 정규분포를 한다는 판정하에서 이루어졌다.
비용분석모형은 조립라인에서 발생가능한 미완성품의 종류와 그 양을 파악할 수 있게 함으로서 여러가지 라인디자인의 대안을 비교할 수 있도록 해준다.
본논문에서 제시하고 있는 발견적방법은 '임계미완성비용' 이라는 개념이 그 기본이 되어 세 단계의 과정을 통하여 효과적인 라인 균형을 이룰 수 있으며 그 과정은 다음과 같다. 첫째, '임계미완성비용'에 의하여 최초의 균형을 이루고, 둘째, '임계미완성비용'을 낮춤으로서 더 나은 균형을 이루며 마지막으로 작업자의 수를 줄임으로서 보다 우수한 균형을 이룰 수 없는가를 확인한다.
