Kinetics of reaction of hydrogen with titanium was studied in the temperature range from 450℃ to 1025℃ using the thermogravimetric method under the dynamic open flow system.
The effect of the temperature and hydrogen partial pressure on the reaction rate were studied.
Comparing the possible reaction mechanism of metalgas reaction rate of the titanium and hydrogen, found that rate controlling step is diffusion of hydrogen in titanium.
From the reaction rate data, calculated that the apparent activation energy of hydrogen diffusion in hydride phase is 11.9 Kcal/mol.
And diffusion coefficient of the hydrogen in Beta(BCC)-titanium was calculated from the appropriate solution of Fick's 2nd equation in cylinderical geometry in the temperature range from 895℃ to 1025℃.
Temperature dependence of diffusion coefficient in Beta(BCC)titanium is offered as follows.
D (㎠/sec) = $3.5×10^{-3}$ exp(-9930±800/RT)
D (㎠/sec) = $3.5×10^{-3}$ exp(-9930±800/RT)
