A variety of business portfolio techniques have been widely used to support strategic planning but fewer studies on patent portfolio was made to support IP strategy. This paper aims at proposing a new principle to design patent portfolio, such as definition of core factor to affect IP value, newly allocation of the factors on axis. This focus on designing the portfolio responding to change of patent value as time passed.
A new approach to design portfolio is proposed on input-output base view. If a portfolio diagnosis model is understood as a mathematical function, the core factor can be understood as input data and a strategic planning to be recommended can be understood as output data. The core factors are additionally defined on another input-output base view. In other words, they are classified on internal-external factor base. This step helps to easily determine axis of the model and provide an important idea to portfolio assessment.
The core factor means dominant contributor to affect the output of the model. 5 core factors are newly defined to help designing a patent portfolio evaluation model. They are commercial value of IP, market value of IP, technical value of IP, perfection value of IP and profit value of IP. They are very logically correlated and useful tool for future study on patent portfolio. This proposes a variety of CMTP matrix using the 5 core factors.
This newly propose a Time Line matrix based on CMTP matrix using the 5 main factors. This proposes an idea to control an input of resources according to IP value. The proposed portfolio is design to increase input of resources responding to increase of IP value regarding external factor. The proposed portfolio is designed to prevent excessive resources from being input into unimportant IP.
다양한 사업 포트폴리오 기법들이 전략적 기획을 위해 폭넓게 활용되어 있으나, 특허 포트폴리오에 대한 연구는 많지 않다. 이 연구 논문은 특허 포트폴리오를 설계하기 위한 새로운 원리를 제안하는 것을 목표로 한다. 즉 특허 가치에 영향을 주는 핵심인자에 대한 정의나 축에 인자들을 배치하는 방법들을 포함하고 있다. 시간이 흐름에 따라 특허 가치가 변동하는 속성에 대응할 수 있는 포트폴리오를 설계하는 것에 초점을 맞추고 있다.
포트폴리오를 설계하기 위한 새로운 접근법은 입력-출력 기반의 관점에서 제안된다. 포트폴리오 진단모델을 수학적 함수로 이해하면, 핵심인자를 입력값으로 이해하고 추천되어 지는 전략 기획안을 출력값으로 이해할 수 있다. 추가적으로 핵심인자들도 또 다른 관점에서의 입력-출력 기반으로 정의한다. 다른 한편으로는 핵심인자들은 내부-외부 인자 관점에서 정의한다. 이 단계는 포트폴리오 모델의 축을 결정하는데 도움을 주며 포트폴리오 평가법에 중요한 아이디어를 제공한다.
