We investigate the one to three year long-run performance of initial public offering (IPO) firms in a sample of 481 IPOs from 2002-2011. Then we divided the whole period into two periods which are called financial crisis period and non-financial crisis period. Again, we examined the one to three year long-run performance of IPOs by looking at them separately. This thesis also examined the relation between the intended use of capital earned through initial public offering and long-run performance of a firm. After a careful examination, there was no significant evidence of long-run abnormal returns for IPOs for the whole period. Even when the whole period was subdivided into two periods, the result was the same as the whole period. And our findings indicate that if IPOs invest more money into equipment, it results in the improvement of long-run performance.
본 논문은 2002년부터 2011년까지의 481개의 IPO 주식의 1년부터 3년까지의 장기성과에 관한 분석을 하였다. 그 후, 전체표본 기간을 2007~2008년의 금융위기 기간과 나머지 기간의 비금융위기 기간으로 나누어 각 기간의 장기성과를 분석하였다. 또한 본 논문은 IPO를 통한 기업들의 공모자금 사용목적과 장기성과와의 관계에 대하여 분석하였다. 실험 결과, 전체 표본기간 내에서 IPO 기업의 장기 보유기간 비정상수익률은 존재하지 않는 것으로 나타났으며, 금융위기 기간과 비금융위기 기간으로 나누었을 때에도 전체 표본기간의 결과와 동일한 결과를 나타냈다. 마지막으로 IPO 기업들의 공모자금 사용목적과 기업의 장기성과는 관련이 있는 것으로 나타났으며 기업들이 시설자금에 투자를 더 많이 할 경우 장기성과는 더 높은 것으로 나타났다.
