There have been many researches on the preparation of $Pb(Zr_xTi_{1-x})O_3$, (0 < x < 1) powders by Sol-Gel Method. But the precise nature of Sol-Gel mechanisms on PZT fabrication is little understood. Most of the researchers prepared PZT powders from the different precursors. Some of them succeeded in the preparation of monosized-PZT powders. In Sol-Gel PZT powder preparation, not only the effect of Pb-precursors but also the effect of hydrolyzing water content and catalyst addition was not studied deeply till now.
In this work, the experiments are carried out by changing the hydrolyzing water content and addition of catalyst to alter the hydrolysis kinetics and by changing the Pb-precursor with Pb-acetate or Pb-nitrate. The starting composition was Pb : Zr : Ti = 103 : 50 : 50.
When the hydrolyzing water content is low, monolithic gel is obtained. Because of this specimen is chemically inhomogeneous, it is impossible to get rid of the pyrochlore phase even with calcination at 1100℃, for 3 hours.
