The bypass issue is especially important because of its potential effect on universal service. If large customers install alternative telecommunications systems and thereby reduce their use of telephone company facilities, there could be significant amounts of idle telephone company plant. If the costs of this idle plant were then spread among remaining customers, rates would rise, leading to more bypass and also to drop-offs of residential customers. Because of these potential problems it is important to understand why bypass is occurring in the future and how it affects the use of telephone company services(long distance services, private line service) and to establish policy responses to bypass activity.
Data were collected through interviews and questionnaire from the sample covering 65 customers of Korea Telecom. The data were analyzed by using t-test, Nonliner Regression, Descriminant Analysis.
The important results of this study are as follows.
1. Large customers are considering bypassing Korea Telecom.
2. The most important reason for considering bypass is the reduction of telecommunication cost.
3. The satisfaction of KT's long distance services are important influencing factors on considering bypass and also are the information of bypass.
4. The bypassers are thinking of private line as a bypass.
