Surface/Surface intersection is a common and important problem in geometric modelling and CAD/CAM. It plays the most basic role in designing complex shaped surface which is composed of two or more simple surfaces. Recently, the Unified Solid Modeller using trimmed surface concept requires the robust and efficient Surface/Surface intersection routine.
In this paper, 1) the Hybrid scheme to find the intersection curves between two rational parametric Bezier surfaces is explained, 2) conversion rule from Rational Non Uniform B_Spline(NURB)Surface into Rational Bezier surface is summarized, and 3) the several rules in setting the tolerances in order to balance robustness and efficiency of the algorithm is provided, with some examples and analysis.
