A high performance image processing machine is designed and implemented, and its software environment is constructed. The system consists of two modules, or image and graphic processing and display modules. The developed system is an attached-machine which has host computer of SUN, and therefore, each module has a host interface and is operated as a device of SUN. Processing module is designed to be extended to a parallel processing machine which has the MIMD architecture with a shared memory for message passing. For high speed processing, it has large main memory and high speed processing CPU, intel80860, which has 80 MFLOPs peak performance. To provide the effective output, display module supports full color display device that consists of the frame, overlay, and text buffer, and RAMDAC and the graphic processor TMS34020. The goal of the system software is to support an easy programming environment using a high-level language. Therefore, the constructed software environment supports the C-language programming and offers several library functions programmed by using assembly language.
