A gradient in electric conductivity generally results if a temperature gradient is imposed on a slightly conducting liquid. It is shown that if the liquid layer between two rigid boundaries is subject to a standing electric potential wave, charges are induced in bulk and the charges interact with the imposed electric field to produce a cellular liquid motion. A theoritical model is developed for the cell stream lines and the temperature distribution.
