MnAPO-5 and FAPO-5 samples differing in their metal content were synthesized hydrothermally. MnAPO-5 samples were characterized by means of physico-chemical methods such as SRD, XEM, EPR, EPR, and DRS. The diffuse reflectance spectrum shows some of Mn ions are present as $Mn^+3$ in calcined MnAPO-5. The ESR spectrum shows well resolved sextet hyperfine lines at g=2.0, a g value expected from $Mn^+2$ in octahedral or tetrahedral structure. Ammonated MnAPO-5 gives signal at g=4.3 with splitting characteristics of distorted Td. This fact alone may not be used as the evidence for the incorporation of $Mn^+2$ into tetrahedral site in MnAPO-5 because nonframework $Mn^+2$ can also exist in tetrahedral structure. MnAPO-5 samples were compared with FAPO-5 samples in dehydration reaction of cyclohexanol. Dehydrogenation reaction of cyclohexanol correlates well with DRS. EPR results and gives an evidence that nonframework Mn species are located in cationic exchangeable site.
