The conversion of TV signals from interlaced to progressive format is necessary for display of better quality and also for better compression of video data.
In this thesis, some enhancement methods are investigated for a motion adaptive inter-field deinterlacing algorithm. One improvement is based on extending the modes of operation to static blocks and to intra-field deinterlacing blocks. The second new feature is the motion-estimation based on the original pixels of reference fields only.
It is found that the proposed motion-estimation provides better performance with less complexity. The overall performances are compared in terms of mean square error and signal-to-noise power ratio.
