Many research institutes and corporations are focusing on developing new medicines, because people are getting more interested in human health for their longer life than before as industrial development. Research on botanical drug is emerging as a higher value-added business among the researches on developing new medicines, due to abundant clinical information. The information of natural materials which composition of botanical drug can be utilized to develop new botanical drug because natural materials have been used to cure disease for a long time and their specifications are preserved as significant numbers of documents. Unfortunately, almost existing natural material databases serving by many organizations are un-processable and incompatible with each other. We integrated several natural material databases to a processable database with a novel framework for solving the problems that occurred in integrating process. Many valuable operations like inferring the candidates of botanical drug and the efficacy of the candidates are facilitated by using our new database.
산업 기술의 발전에 따라 사람들의 수명이 길어지고 있고, 그에 따라 사람들은 더 건강한 삶에 대한 욕구가 증가하고 있다. 여러 연구 기관과 회사들은 신약 개발에 매우 관심을 두고 있으며, 특히 최근 천연물 신약 개발에 대한 연구가 증가하고 있다. 천연물은 예로부터 질병을 치료하기 위한 약으로써 사용되어 왔고, 이러한 천연물에 대한 효능과 부작용 정보는 오랜 시간 축적되어 왔다. 풍부한 임상 정보와 적은 부작용, 그리고 예로부터 확인된 우수한 효능으로 인해 고부가가치 산업으로 촉망받고 있다. 특히, 풍부한 임상 정보를 이용하여 천연물 신약 개발과 합성 의약품 개발에 있어 매우 큰 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이라고 기대된다. 하지만, 오래 전부터 축적되어 온 정보이기 때문에 데이터 처리가 불가능한 고문서의 형태로 남아있어 임상 정보를 바로 활용하기란 쉽지 않다. 현재 여러 국가와 기관에서 데이터베이스화를 진행하고 있지만, 그 형태가 모두 다르고 데이터의 표준화가 되지 않아 처리가 힘든 상황이다. 우리는 현재 공개된 여러 천연물 데이터베이스를 하나로 통합하고, 통합 과정에서 발생하는 문제점을 해결하는 프레임워크를 설계 및 구축하고자 한다. 구축된 프레임워크를 통해 생성된 데이터베이스를 활용하여 유망한 천연물 신약 후보 추론, 여러 약재의 조합의 기대 효능 등의 가치있는 작업을 수행할 수 있다.
