Clustering and visualization of photos have recently attracted much attention with the goal of organizing personal photo albums, and they are also useful in other applications such as image annotation, photo browsing, video summarization, contents curation services, and so on.
Although there are numerous album management systems, organizing personal collections still remains a challenging issue. In this thesis, we propose a graph-based event clustering and its visualization method for personal photo albums.
Generally, photos in the same event are close in terms of time and visual contents.
Thus, we use two types of data information (i.e., time and visual content) for clustering.
Our graph-based clustering method can allow for a wide time range of events.
Then assessment of aesthetic photo quality and visual similarity is conducted for cluster visualization.From experimental results, we confirm that the proposed algorithm provides reliable organization results for various personal albums.
군집화와 시각화 기술은 개인의 앨범을 관리하기 위해 유용하게 적용될 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 그 이외의 실제 응용분야 (e.g., 영상 어노테이션, 검색, 비디오 요약, 컨텐츠 큐레이션 서비스 등등) 에 대한 가능성으로 인해 활발하게 연구되고 있다. 군집화와 시각화 기술을 이용한 다양한 앨범 관리 기술들이 연구되어 왔음에도 불구하고 개인의 앨범을 관리하는 것은 영상이해 분야에서도 상당히 어려운 문제 중 하나이다. 본 논문에서는 개인의 앨범을 관리하기 위한 그래프 기반의 이벤트 군집화 및 시각화 방법을 제안한다. 일반적으로 동일한 이벤트 내의 사진들은 시간 정보와 시각 내용 정보에 있어서 근접한 특징을 가진다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 군집화를 위해 두 종류의 데이터 정보 (즉, 시간 정보와 시각 내용 정보) 를 이용하고 그래프 기반의 방법을 이용함으로써 넓은 범위의 이벤트들을 고려할 수 있도록 한다. 그리고 군집된 이벤트들의 시각화를 위해 이벤트 내의 사진들에 대해서 심미적 평가와 시각 유사도 기반의 평가를 수행한다. 실험 결과로부터 제안하는 알고리즘이 다양한 개인의 앨범들에서 신뢰할 수 있고 타당한 앨범 관리 결과를 보이는 것을 확인하였다.
