There are three components of the Expected Loss(EL). The first thing is Exposures at Default(EaD), the second thing is Probability of Default(PD), and the last one is Loss Given Default(LGD). The EL can be calculated by the products of the three components.
My object for this research is the estimation of the PD and the Loss Ratio as a Loss Given Default on the construction guarantee bonds. For the guarantee company, it is very important to estimate the PD and the Loss Ratio on the guarantee bonds which are to be published. There are too many factors to be considered for the estimation and it is very difficult to estimate them precisely. For the estimation, I have adopted 28 variables including financial factors of the guaranteed companies and macro indices for the PD estimation through the logistic regression and used the kernel density estimation method for the Loss Ratio density on the construction guarantee bond. Then, I have divided the guaranteed companies by the credit ratings of the Construction Guarantee cooperative in South Korea because I have believed that the estimation model for the PD and the Loss Ratio will be different subject to the credits of the companies.
As a result, I have found that there are several meaningful variables for the guaranteed companies in PD estimations. Among them, the magnitude of the assets shows very interesting results. Contrary to the common sense, the beta of magnitude of the assets explains that the construction guarantee bond for the relatively big company could be easily default. And the beta of the turnover ratio of the total assets shows that the construction company should have a certain level of financial assets or tangible assets in lower credit ratings. Out of the macro variables, the beta of the default spread shows that the default spread has a contrary relationship with the PD in publishing construction guarantee bonds.
Estimating the Loss Ratio, I have checked the risks with Value at Risk(VaR) and Conditional Value at Risk(CVaR). The historical data of the construction guarantee show that the AA and BBB ratings have more potential risks rather than other ratings in the recession. It means the construction guarantee companies need to reserve more allowances for the companies in the AA and BBB ratings.
손해율을 추정할 때, 이를 이용하여 Value at Risk(VaR)와 Conditional Value at Risk(CVaR)을 체크해보았다.
