Fuel cell is very promising energy converting device which change the energy from the chemical to electrical. It is available when it is injected a hydrogen to the anode side as a fuel. Unfortunately, there is small amount of usable pure hydrogen. To overcome this limitation people develop the reforming technology to extract the hydrogen from the hydrocarbon in fossil fuel. Among the several stages of reforming technolo-gy, preferential oxidation is very important to remove carbon monoxide which is directly harmful for anode of fuel cell. In this study, the possibility to use non-precious metallic catalyst especially for copper oxide is examined with the newly proposed combination of metal and support. The gadolinium which is a transition metal which could be doped into the ceria to enhance the oxygen vacancy of the support of catalyst is newly proposed as a doping component of copper oxide catalyst for preferential oxidation. This study reveals the significant role of gadolinium in the support by the experiment which is examined the metal`s effect to the performance of preferential oxidation. Also, this study shows the optimized operating condition of the newly proposed copper oxide catalyst.
