The purpose of this research is to analyze the impact of financial crisis on positive feedback trading in stock market. Considering that there has been no studies on positive feedback trading that takes into consideration both firm size and timeframe of crisis, this paper contributes in revealing which size of firm and period of crisis cause positive feedback trading in stock market, particularly in Korea. For this purpose, we utilize KOSPI index data from Jan. 5th 2006 to June 29th 2012, which we first segment into five periods via Bai-Perron test. Our findings can be grouped into three large groups. First, using GARCH augmented positive feedback model, our results indicate that large firms differ from the rest, where it showed positive feedback trading during both crises while others varied. Secondly, we find that fundamental variables such as government bond, certificate of deposit, exchange rate, credit default swap, and S&P 500 index which generate positive feedback trading in market are the same regardless of firm size, showing robustly identical results within 1% significance level. Building upon this, our third and final result suggests that firm size has an impact on deciding what factors (transaction amount, market capitalization, volatility index, and foreign ratio) cause positive feedback trading.
