Linkage between the U.S. and Asia stock markets was studied by using a vector error correction model. Daily stock indices of the U.S., Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore from 2007 to 2012 were used as price to find the linkage. From the estimated vector error correction model, strong linkage of the U.S. market on Asian markets was identified. But linkage of the Asian markets on the U.S. market was not as significant. Japanese influence on Asian markets with negative linkage was estimated, as well as Singaporean influence on Asian Markets with positive linkage. From Granger Causality Test, Impulse Response Test and Variance Decomposition Analysis, forecastability of the U.S. market on Asian markets was identified. In case of the local currency basis analysis, similar result was found.
