The article examines the risk and return of Sovereign Capital Structure Arbi-trage. The divided financial market with credit derivative and equity markets are connected by credit risk on the basis of sovereign CDS and equity indices. The analysis is performed by a convergence-type trding strategy for the CreditGrades structural model. The 10 global country’s 5 year daily CDS spreads and MSCI Country Indices are used as dataset. We separated the whole period, the one with low volatility and another with high volatility after financial crisis, which shows the inefficiency in the market with raised volatility. An equally weighted portfolio of trades invested in global markets reduces risk and has better per-formance than individual trades. In addition, it produces the specific and market neutral pattern of returns that shows that capital structure arbitrage is the one of good alternative investment strategies.
본 연구는 글로벌 자본구조 차익거래 전략을 구성하고 수익률과 위험을 분석한 논문이다. Sovereign CDS 스프레드와 주식 인덱스를 바탕으로 분리되어 있는 금융시장을 신용위험으로 연결하여 상대가치 차익거래 전략을 발전시켰다. 전략의 구성은 Structural 모델인 CreditGrades모형을 중심으로 Convergence 타입의 트레이딩 전략을 구성하였다. 데이터는 전 세계 10개 국가의 5년 물 일별 CDS 스프레드와 MSCI 국가 인덱스를 사용하였다. 전체 기간은 변동성이 작은 구간과 금융위기 후 변동성이 큰 구간을 나누어 전략을 수행하여 변동성 증가로 인한 금융시장의 비효율성을 보여주고자 하였다. 개별 국가 전략보다는 글로벌 국가에 포트폴리오로 투자되는 경우에 더 좋은 성과를 낼 수 있었고, 위험도 줄어들었다. 또한, 자본구조 차익거래 특유의 수익률 패턴을 보여 대안투자로서의 좋은 수단을 됨을 보여주고 있다.
