In product development, FMEA(Failure Method and Effect Analysis) must be not only effective to reinforce product quality but also efficient to meet the time-to-market requirement. Engineers mainly gain the potential failure information based on retrieving the FMEA documents of similar cases. However, the current retrieval system requires a time-consuming task because the amount of FMEA document is large and most of the failure information is described with various expressions. In order to extract important failure information, we propose the methodology of creating semantic models of FMEA documents. The semantic models are created by syntactic and semantic document processing based on the domain ontology and rules. To demonstrate that it can support the semantic search of FMEA information, we create the semantic models of sample FMEA documents and make a query using SPARQL.
