The objective of this study is to reconsider of books from the media perspective; for compared to the wide range of them, books have only been studied from limited points-of-view. The categories of books to be studied were outlined and elements of books were specified. Then development of media technology and examples of advanced forms of books were reviewed in chronological order. Thus it was possible to classify generations of books as Book 1.0, Book 1.0+, and Book 2.0, which allowed envisioning of Book 2.0+. From many possibilities this study chose to develop the system and prototype of Multi Device e-Book, which can be attained through widespread of smart devices and cloud service. Multi Device e-Book is a form of e-book that contains a story in more than one devices: thus while reader is reading a book from one device, certain incidents or events of the story will be provided to the user through other devices. Interviews with Book 2.0 experts were conducted to investigate the potentiality of this type of e-book. It was possible to find different kinds of enjoyment and possibility of immersion from Book 2.0+, which integrates new media technologies. Previous research on books have been segmented and subdivided, failing to take an integrative stance. By addressing books under the frame of media technology development, this study presents an integrative viewpoint of the media perspective. Also by suggesting direction of e-books from perspective of the media, this study presents new possibilities of e-books which allows diverse approaches on the subject.
본 연구는 책이라는 매체의 폭넓은 영역에 비해 한정적인 관점에서 연구되었다는 것에 주목해 미디어 관점에서 책을 재조명하려는 의도에서 시작되었다. 이를 위해 연구에서 다룰 책의 범주를 정하고 책의 요소를 정리한 뒤 development of media technology과 새로운 형태의 책의 사례를 연대기적으로 나열하고 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 책의 세대를 Book 1.0, Book 1.0+, Book 2.0으로 구분한 후 그 다음 세대로 가능할 Boo2.0+을 예측해 보았다. 여러 가능성중에 하나인, smart device의 보급과 cloud service로 가능할 Multi Device e-Book의 시스템과 프로토타입을 제작하였다. Multi Device e-Book은 이야기가 복수의 device에 퍼져있어서 독자가 책을 읽어나가는 중에 특정한 상황의 이야기가 다른 기기를 통해 제시되는 형태의 전자책이다. 책 2.0 분야의 전문가의 심층 인터뷰를 통해 이런 형태의 책이 가지는 가능성을 탐색해 보았다. 새로운 미디어 기술을 접목시킨 Book 2.0+의 전자책은 기존과는 다른 재미와 몰입의 가능성을 확인했다. 본 연구는 분절된 형태로 이해되고 연구되어온 책을 미디어 기술 발전의 측면에서 정리함으로서, 책을 미디어의 관점에서 통합적으로 바라볼 수 있는 시선을 제시하였다. 또한 미디어 관점에서 전자책을 바라보고 방향성을 제시함으로서, 전자책의 새로운 가능성을 보여주어 다양한 방향에서 접근할 수 있도록 하였다.
