In this paper, I will survay results of Eisenbud, Green, Hulek and Popescu who proved
that if $\ix$ is $2$-regular, then the same is true for the ideal of any linear section of $X$, so long as the intersection has dimension $\leq 1$. Moreover, they proved the equivalence of smallness, $2$-regularity and linearly joined sequence of varieties of minimal degree for algebraic sets.
For a finitely generated module $M$ over a polynomial ring $S=k[x_0,\cdots,x_{n}]$ with $k$ an algebraically closed field of arbitrary characteristic, we say that $M$ is $r$-regular(in the sense of Castelnuove and Mumford) if the $i$-th syzygy module of $M$ is generated in degrees less than or equal to $r+i$.
The first paper $[1]$ of Eisenbud, Green, Hulek and Popescu studying any linear section of $d$-regular closed subscheme $X\subset\mathbb{P}^{n}$. Under some restriction, the ideal of the linear section of $X$ also satisfies $d$-regularity. The second paper $[2]$ of them is studying $2$-regular algebraic sets. This paper says that a $2$-regularity is equivalent to smallness in algebraic sets and it can be represented by a linearly joined sequence of varieties of minimal degree. This result gives a geometric point of view to understanding $2$-regularity.
varieties of minimal degree 의 linearly joined sequence 로
