The role of manufacturing and the impact on the economy for each country are shown differently. In particular, during the economic crisis, the recovery strategy and the time are totally different depending on the role and characteristics of manufacturing. Every country has structurally different characteristics and its firms have different capabilities and competitiveness. So, these differentiations are happened.
The cause of having different manufacturing characteristics for each country is that the beginning was affected to the country own culture, history, institutional factors. And it base on the different ‘organizing principles’ during the developing period.
The ‘organizing principles’ affect the firm strategies and capabilities. Especial, the ‘organizing principles’ make the different performance and impact to firm groups separated by size (large, medium and small). So, it is another view point of firm competitiveness that figuring out how the ‘organizing principles’ are developed and what the results are.
This study shows the structural differentiations and the developing paths among Japan, Germany, Korea and USA. And then, this paper shows the structure of making ‘organizing principles’ and the relationship between ‘organizing principles’ and firm capabilities.
