Inductive coupling concept for wearable computing application of the multimedia system is introduced. To achieve high wearability, two types of the textile-based wearable inductor are proposed. Since the substrate of both inductors are flexible, the process variation and time variation can be occurred. Analysis of the proposed wearable inductor in terms of the process and time variation is performed in order to inspect the effect of variation on the data transmission. The analysis reveals that the inductance variation have to be compensated for both types of inductor so that they can be used for wearable applications. And the dedicated inductive coupling transceiver is designed and implemented for the proposed wearable inductor. With this transceiver, inductance and channel gain variation due to the fold of the inductor can be compensated by changing parallel capacitor. Successful data communication up to 3cm distance is measured with the bit error rate < 10-3 . The transceiver consumes 427μW and occupies 2.7mm2 in 0.18μm CMOS process.
