A computational study has been performed to examine the effects of catalytic walls on stagnation region heat transfer. Boundary Conditions for none, finite, and fully catalytic walls have been incorporated into a Multi-Block Compressible Navier-Stokes code, known as Eilmer3. Both chemical and thermal non-equilibrium effects were included. Flows over several blunt bodies model at 0 deg angle of attack were simulated by varying surface catalytic recombination rates. A full range of catalycities was explored in the context of a surface energy balance and a constant wall temperature assumption. Detailed information on species concentrations, temperature, and surface heat flux are presented. Comparison with experimental surface heat flux data obtained using a shock tube is also made. Using the data obtained in a shock tube experiment, the catalytic efficiency of copper oxide was about 0.005, while copper had an efficiency of about 0.07.
