Recently questioning and answering (Q&A) communities that facilitate knowledge sharing among the people were introduced to the mobile environments such as Naver Mobile Q&A and ChaCha. Mobile Q&A is very different from conventional Q&A sites in that questions and answers are short in length and are exchanged via wireless communications (e.g., SMS and mobile Internet). While conventional Q&A serviced have been investigated, so far little is known about the mobile Q&A usage. To understand mobile Q&A usage, I analyzed over 2.4 million questions and answers pairs spanning a 13 month period from Naver Mobile Q&A and performed a complementary survey study of 274 active mobile Q&A users. I find that mobile Q&A is deeply wired into users’ everyday life activities - its usage is largely dependent on users’ spatial, temporal, social contexts - and the key factors of mobile Q&A usage are accessibility/convenience of mobile Q&A, promptness of receiving answers, promptness of posting questions and users’ satisficing behavior information seeking. Furthermore, I found a unique usage pattern that is asking same questions repeatedly in different from conventional Q&A service, and it have many meaning (e.g., estimating users’ expected time to get answers). This findings reported in this thesis have significant implications on the design of mobile Q&A system.
최근 사람들간의 지식 공유를 위한 Q&A 커뮤니티가 모바일 환경에 적용 되었다. 모바일 Q&A는 기존의 Q&A 서비스와 다르게 질문과 답변의 길이가 짧고 무선 통신 (SMS, 모바일 인터넷)을 통해 질문과 답변이 서로 오간다. 기존의 Q&A는 많은 연구자들에 의해 연구 되어온 반면에 모바일 Q&A 서비스는 아직 많이 알려지지 않았다. 모바일 Q&A를 이해하기 위해서 13개월 동안 2.4백만개 이상의 질문과 답변을 을 분석하고 247명의 실제 사용자를 대상으로 설문 조사를 실시 하였다. 모바일 Q&A는 사용자들의 실제 생활을 활동과 면밀히 연결되어 있고, 특히 공간적, 임시적 또는 사회적인 상황과 밀접히 연결 되어있다. 또한 기존의 Q&A 서비스와 비교해서 모바일 폰의 특징에 의해 반복된 질문을 올리는 현상이 모바일 Q&A에 많이 발생하고 있고 이 현상의 분석을 통하여 새로운 사용자들의 숨겨진 의도를 있다. 이 논문에서는 이러한 현상들과 발견들을 설명하고 모바일 Q&A service의 디자인에 있어서 어떤 역할을 하는지 설명 한다.
