In this thesis, we present a particle-based method for simulating dynamic interaction between air and water. In conventional approaches to this problem, huge memory space was required to fully cover the simulation space with particles. In addition, it is hard to stably simulate motion of the air and water due to the drastic change of density at the air-water interface. The parts of the simulation space that are occupied by air are represented with volumes instead of air particles for reducing memory usage, and effectively deal with air pressure and instability at the interface for air-water interaction. We physically model air pressure exerted to the interface in order to simulate a glug-glug phenomenon and small scale dynamics of air bubbles. The instability at the interface is accelerated by introducing external forces onto particles around the interface, which are derived from the curvature of the interface. Finally, our model and the external forces are integrated with a well-known SPH simulation procedure. Through experiments, we show that our method can produce realistic simulation of air-water interaction with little memory overhead.
