ABSTRACT
Smartphone-based music conducting is a convenient and effective approach to conducting practice that aims to overcome the practical limitations of traditional conducting exercise and provide enhanced user experience compared to those of previous virtual conducting examples.
This thesis introduces v-Maestro, a smartphone application for music conducting. Powered by the accelerometer and the magnetometer of the device, v-Maestro analyzes conducting motions that allows the user to not only control the tempo but also simulate “cueing” for different instruments. Results from user tests show that, in spite of certain ergonomic problems, new conducting exercise with v-Maestro is more satisfactory than traditional methods and has a strong potential as a conducting practice tool.

스마트폰을 사용한 음악 지휘 연습은 기존 전통적인 지휘연습에서 한계로 여겨지고 있는 문제들을 극복하고, 기존의 가상 지휘 연구들과 비교하여 더 개선된 사용자 경험을 제공하여 편리하고 효과적인 연습을 할 수 있도록 하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다.
본 연구는 음악 지휘용 스마트폰 어플리케이션 v-Maestro를 제작하였다. 스마트폰에 창착된 가속도와 지자기 센서는 지휘 움직임을 분석하여 템포의 조절뿐 아니라, 각 악기에 지시를 하는 큐잉을 구현하였다. 유저 테스트는 신체적 제한에도 불구하고, v-Maestro가 전통적인 지휘연습 방식보다 만족스럽다는 결과를 보여주어, 지휘 연습 도구로서 많은 가능성을 보여주었다.
