In this paper, we devise and comprehensively analyze an efficient protocol for multiple half-duplex relay communication without a direct link but with inter-relay interference. The proposed protocol which enjoys advantages from selection diversity and dynamic decoding achieves slightly improve DMT performance for low multiplexing gain under 0.5. The selection diversity is obtained by opportunistic relay selection and the dynamic decoding at the best relay improve the performance of the protocol. Especially, the proposed protocol has a considerable dominating region when the number of relays is a few (e.g., the dominating region is from zero to around a quarter when 13 relays are occupied). In addition, the effect of the hiring H-ARQ to protocols can be used in this setup is investigated. With chase combining of the received signal, we can get additional time diversity gain with arbitrary small multiplexing loss which goes to zero as SNR is sufficiently large. Also, the proposed protocol shows higher diversity gain for low multiplexing gain.
