Political views frequently conflict in the coverage of contentious political issues, potentially causing serious social problems. As such it is important to attain awareness on conflicting political views. In this thesis, we present NewsPole exposing political orientations of news articles. NewsPole provides user-based service to build individual’s balanced reading and news-based service to give detail information about political orientation of news. We propose a novel social annotation analysis approach to identify political orientation of articles. It uncovers commenters’ sentiment patterns towards political news articles, and predicts the political orientation from the sentiments expressed in the comments. It takes advantage of commenters’ participation as well as their knowledge and intelligence condensed in the sentiment of comments, thereby greatly reduces the high complexity of political view identification.
상반된 정치적 관점들은 뉴스 사건 전반에 걸쳐 심각한 사회적 갈등을 초래한다. 따라서 사람들이 뉴스 사건에 대해 존재하는 정치적 견해들을 파악하는 것은 매우 중요하다. 본 논문은 뉴스 기사들에서 나타나는 정치적 견해들을 자동으로 파악하여 사람들에게 전달하는 시스템인 NewsPole을 제안한다. NewsPole은사람들이 매체 편향의 문제에 대해 보다 능동적으로 대처할 수 있도록 ‘사용자 중심 서비스’ (User-based Service)와 ‘뉴스 중심 서비스’ (News-Based Service)를 제공한다. 사용자 중심 서비스는 개인의 뉴스 구독 습관을 반영하여 사람들이 보다 균형 있게 뉴스를 읽을 수 있도록 돕는다. 반면, 뉴스 중심 서비스는 사람들이 사건을 잘 이해할 수 있도록, 뉴스 기사가 담고 있는 정치적 견해에 관한 정보를 구조화 하여 제공한다. NewsPole에서 가장 중요한 부분은 뉴스 기사의 성향을 자동적으로 알아내는 일이다. 제안된 시스템은 뉴스 기사의 정치적 견해를 알아내기 위해 정치 기사에 남겨진 댓글들에서 보이는 사람들의 정서 패턴을 활용한다. 실험 결과, 제안된 방법이 뉴스 본문 분석에 기반한 방법에 비해 뉴스 기사의 정치적 견해를 더 정확하게 파악해 냈다.
