In recent years, with demanding global trend, our society is constantly trying to amend local cultural resources to resources for tourism. However, in-depth analysis research on cultural resources and the study of how those resources are being accepted to actual visitors are inadequate up until now. In fact, the prior approach on cultural resources utilization are mostly focused on hardware perspective that it is not easy to create city’s “unique sense of a place” and rather it’s been hard to figure out how much practical helps visitors are really getting from the prearranged phenomenon. Thus, in this study, we focused on Bukchon, which is known for its rich historical and cultural resources, to examine ways to communicate with its visitors from cultural and educational standpoint in order to preserve the entire region and to trigger the visit on whole area.
We had seen Bukchon area as an “Open-Air Museum” concept and we recognized its characteristics as “openness” and the “fixed exhibits” circumstances. Due to these characteristics, comparing to existing conditions of museums, the elements to control over its visitors is very limited and this limited condition makes “Open-Air Museum” visitors to rely more on the information they possesses.
Thus in this study, management direction is suggested for an open-air museum’s cultural resources commencement method to show the ways for visitors to access which information in which way. For this purpose, targeting Bukchon’s visitors, GPS tracking surveys, questionnaires and interviews were done. Through the extracted data visitors patterns and information in relation visitors’ patterns were investigated. During analysis, an open-air museum’s characteristic was proposed to consider as analytical methods. In addition, Bukchon’s on-offline information status were studied to see the correlation between the visitors patterns.
The research method was designed to identity specifically to figure out uncomfortable elements for Bukchon’s visitors and to draws on a plan to resolve. Lastly, based on the studies, in what ways the information about the area should be deliver in long term would be offered. Furthermore, how these implications can be applied to other possible open-air museum would be investigated.
최근 들어 우리 사회는 세계 적인 흐름과 발맞추어 지역의 문화자원을 관광자원화 하려는 노력을 끊임없이 하고 있다. 하지만 지역의 문화자원들을 심층적으로 분석하고, 그러한 자원들이 실제 관람객들이 어떻게 인식되고 있는지에 대한 연구가 미흡할 뿐 아니라 문화자원 활성화 방안이 대부분 하드웨어적인 부분에 치중되어 있어 실제로 도시 고유의 장소성을 만들어 내는데 어려움을 겪고 있다. 또한 그러한 노력들이 방문객들에게 얼마나 실질적인 도움이 되고 있는지도 알기 어렵다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 역사문화자원이 풍부한 북촌 지역을 대상으로 지역 전체를 보존하고, 문화적, 교육적 측면에서 문화자원을 활성화 시키고자 하는데 있어 관리자 측면에서 방문객과 어떻게 소통할 것인가에 대해 집중하고자 한다.
본 연구에서는 북촌 지역을 하나의 오픈 에어 뮤지엄의 개념으로 보았으며, 오픈 에어 뮤지엄은 도시적 성격과 뮤지엄의 성격을 모두 가지고 있으며, ‘개방성’과 ‘전시물의 고정성’을 큰 특징이다. 이런 특징으로 인해 기존의 뮤지엄 비해 방문객을 통제할 수 있는 요소들이 매우 제한적이며, 이는 오픈 에어 뮤지엄 방문객들이 자신이 가진 정보에 더 많이 의존하게 만든다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 오픈 에어 뮤지엄의 문화 자원 활성화를 위한 매니지먼트 방향의 하나로서 방문객들에게 어떠한 정보를 어떠한 방식으로 접근시켜주야 하는가를 제안한다. 이러한 목적을 위해 본 연구에서는 북촌 방문객을 대상으로 GPS 추적조사와 설문조사 및 인터뷰를 진행하였고, 이를 통해 추출된 데이터들을 가지고 방문자들의 관람 패턴과 정보와의 관계에 대해 심층 조사 분석하였다. 분석 과정에서는 오픈 에어 뮤지엄의 특성을 고려한 분석 방법을 제안하였으며, 또한 북촌 지역의 온프라인 정보들의 현황을 조사하고 그것과 관람 패턴과의 상관성에 대해서도 연구하고자 하였다.
이러한 조사 분석 방법을 통해 관리자들은 구체적으로는 방문객들이 관람 하는데 있어 불편해 하는 요소들을 파악할 수 있으며 그것을 해소하기 위한 방안들을 도출할 수 있다. 그리고 그러한 것들을 바탕으로 장기적으로 이 지역에 관한 정보를 어떠한 방식으로 방문객들에게 전달해야 하는가에 대한 제안을 하고자 한다. 또한 더 나아가 본 연구는 오픈 에어 뮤지엄의 특징을 가진 다른 지역에 어떻게 적용 가능할지에 대해서도 연구해보고 향후 연구를 통해 타 지역에 이 조사 분석 방법을 적용해 보고 수정 보완하여 좀 더 일반화하고자 한다.
