Mean-Variance Hedging is the hedge strategy to minimize unconditional expected squared hedging error in incomplete market where perfect replication is typically impossible. We analyze Mean-Variance Hedging in discrete time. Compared to the case of continuous time, studies on discrete time are relatively few. We show that Mean-Variance Hedging in discrete time is considered as a sequence of one-period least squares regressions. But when we use the sequential regression methods, we cannot deal it in the case of too many state variables. Also we implement Mean-Variance Hedging strategies by dynamic programming methods. For this, we use KOSPI200 index as an underlying stock. After analyzing the properties of KOSPI200 index returns, we apply Mean-Variance Hedging strategies to three-type options - Plain Vanilla Call Option, Cash or Nothing Call Option and Up and Out Call Option. The results say that Mean-Variance Hedging decreases the hedging errors generally, but in the case of exotic options, we should use this method carefully.
본 논문에서는 구체적으로 KOPI200지수를 기초자산으로 하는 3가지 종류의 옵션(Plain Vanilla Call 옵션, Cash or Nothing Call 옵션, Up and Out Call 옵션)에 대해 실제로 Dynamic Programming의 관점에서 Mean-Variance Hedging 전략을 적용해 봄으로써 Mean-Variance Hedging 전략과 기존의 델타 헤지 방법론에 의한 헤지 전략을 비교해 본다.
