The Web Community has become an important social medium that allows users to participate in building social relationships and collaboratively conducting group activities while overcoming geographical barriers. However, there are a number of challenges to be faced before Web communities can become sustainable and so that members of these communities can continuously and consistently participate in community activities. First, recognizing the maturity of a Web community and making an appropriate decision to perform management functions are difficult for a leader. In addition, it is challenging for a leader to identify the relationship between actual data available from a community and the factors to evaluate community maturity. Next, managing the coherence of the content of a community is difficult due to the unbalanced distribution of the interests of the members, especially when their numbers are increasing. Finally, community operations cannot be related to management acts of the leader owing to the ambiguity of sustainable community operations within community maturity and the stages the communities are experiencing. This paper proposes a Web community life-cycle management framework that provides guidance to manage a Web community successfully based on a Web community life-cycle and its maturity model. The main goal of this approach is to help community leaders lead their communities to a sustainable stage. The proposed framework is evaluated using four case studies that formed in Web 2.0 environments to analyze the feasibility of recognizing the stages of community life-cycles and the relationships between community operations and maturity.
최근의 웹 커뮤니티는 사용자로 하여금 지리적인 한계를 극복하고 사회적 관계 형성에 참여 및 협업적인 그룹 활동을 수행하게 하는 중요한 사회의 한 수단이 되었다. 성공적인 웹 커뮤니티란 커뮤니티 멤버들이 커뮤니티 활동을 통하여 그들의 니즈를 만족시키는 것이라고 할 수 있는데 결국 지속적으로 유지되며 멤버들에게 끊임없이 이익을 제공하여 니즈를 만족시키는 웹 커뮤니티가 성공적인 커뮤니티라 할 수 있다. 그러나 커뮤니티가 지속적으로 유지됨으로써 커뮤니티 멤버들이 끊임없고 일관되게 커뮤니티 활동에 참여하도록 하는 데에는 몇 가지 문제가 존재한다.
첫째, 운영자로 하여금 웹 커뮤니티의 성숙도를 인식하고 적절한 의사결정을 통해 커뮤니티를 관리하는데 어려움이 있다. 둘째, 실제 커뮤니티에 존재하는 이용 가능한 데이터와 커뮤니티 성숙도를 측정하기 위한 요소 들과의 연관관계를 파악하기 어렵다. 셋째, 커뮤니티의 멤버가 증가함에 따라 멤버들의 관심사가 다양해 지고 불균형해 짐으로서 커뮤니티의 컨텐츠가 일관성을 가지고 증식되기 어렵다. 마지막으로 커뮤니티가 현재 머물고 있는 성숙 정도와 라이프 사이클 단계에서 운영자가 지속 가능한 웹 커뮤니티를 위해 제공해야 하는 커뮤니티 운영노력이 모호하다.
따라서 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여 웹 커뮤니티 라이프 사이클과 성숙도 모델에 기반하여 웹 커뮤니티를 성공적으로 관리할 수 있는 지표를 제공하는 지속 가능한 웹 커뮤니티 라이프 사이클 관리 프레임워크를 제안한다. 본 프레임워크는 실제 커뮤니티 정보를 모니터링 하고 분석하여 운영자가 커뮤니티를 성숙 단계로 발전시킬 수 있도록 도와주는 것을 목표로 하며 웹 커뮤니티 라이프사이클 모델, 웹 커뮤니티 성숙도 모델, 지속 가능한 웹 커뮤니티 오퍼레이션, 성숙도 측정 모델로 구성된다.
본 논문에서는 우리가 제안하는 프레임워크에 웹 2.0 환경에 존재하는 네 개의 커뮤니티의 실제 사례를 적용 및 평가 함으로서 이를 통해 프레임워크가 제공하는 커뮤니티 라이프사이클 인식 및 커뮤니티 성숙도와 운영노력의 관계에 대한 실현 가능성을 검증하였다.
